Bradford Cathedral Choristers

Bradford Camerata

Conductor - Paul Dewhurst

A much anticipated performance of Cherubini’s Requiem and a celebration of Andrew Carter’s 75th birthday with a performance of his Benedicite.

Cherubini was regarded by Beethoven as the greatest of his contemporaries, considering his requiem to be superior to Mozart's. In 1834 the work was prohibited by the archbishop of Paris because of its use of women's voices!

Carter's Benedicite was inspired by the new Benedicite carvings in the restored south transept vault of York Minster. The text comprises a selection of verses from the Benedicite Canticle in The Book Of Common Prayer, freely arranged and added to.
